Among the Clouds…

The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious. And why shouldn’t it be? It is the same the angels breathe – Mark Twain.

The flight from Hyderabad to Coimbatore would take one hour and ten minutes as per the Captain of the Air Costa flight in which I was travelling. For one, I had forgotten the book I was planning to read on board, at home itself. Not being someone who likes socializing with strangers, I did not want to enter into a conversation with my travelling companion who seemed to be a religious evangelist of some sort, a fact I surmised from the book he was reading. I guessed the elderly man was preparing for a sermon or so, the way he was underlining sentences, referring to various psalms from his mobile app, and making notes.

Bright sunlight was streaming in through the glass, and as I turned to pull down the shutters, my heart missed a beat. The view outside was simply awesome!

The warm evening light from the setting sun was lighting up the beautiful, fluffy clouds, giving every thing a golden hue. I don’t think i had ever seen such beauty before. In fact, it almost felt like a scene from one of those sequels from ‘The Lord of the Rings’. I half expected Gandalf the White to appear from nowhere, along with the Hobbits…

Gradually, as the light of the setting sun dimmed, and as we neared our destination, the golden hue gave way to an icy blue and deep grey, with the silhouette of ghost like mountains down below.

The flight landed at Coimbatore soon enough, but I have taken a part of that journey with me forever…
